Sustainability

Growing clean. Growing local. Growing with purpose.

Fresh microgreens

At Rækta Microfarm, sustainability isn't a trend—it's the foundation of how we grow. Our mission is simple: to produce high-quality, clean, and flavorful microgreens for Icelandic restaurants while reducing environmental impact every step of the way.

How We Grow: With Respect for the Environment

01

Less Water, Less Waste

In our indoor farm, every tray is hand-watered only when needed. This uses far less water than traditional agriculture, and nothing goes to waste as the growing medium absorbs every drop.

02

No Chemicals. Ever.

We never use pesticides or harmful chemicals. Our microgreens are grown naturally with clean Icelandic water, controlled light, and high-quality non-GMO seeds, mostly organic and sourced from Italy.

03

Grown to Order

We plant specifically for each client. This reduces waste, ensures maximum freshness, and gives chefs greens that last longer.

04

Year-Round Indoor Cultivation

Icelandic weather is unpredictable, but our supply isn't. Growing indoors allows for consistent production regardless of the season.

Why Local Matters

🌍

Lower Carbon Footprint

Our produce travels only from our farm in Akureyri to nearby restaurants (or strictly necessary shipping), reducing emissions.

♻️

Zero Packaging Waste

We don't use packaging at all! Our microgreens are delivered alive in reusable trays, which we collect and reuse. In Akureyri, we also collect used soil, which a nearby farm composts.
